A SECURITY guard allegedly attacked a man with a knife, leaving him seriously injured in a shocking late-night assault.

Mpumelelo Masuku (40) appeared before Gwanda Regional Magistrate Sithembiso Ndebele on charges of attempted murder. Masuku pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to 10 October 2025.

Prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba told court that the incident occurred on 14 September 2025 at around 8PM at Ndlovini Bottle Store, Bethel Business Centre, Guyu.
“Masuku was manning the main entrance of the bottle store. The complainant who was inside the bottle store wanted to go out and the accused blocked him. The complainant then sneaked out, which did not go well with Masuku who charged towards him and pushed him away,” Shumba said.

Shumba described a terrifying chase. “The complainant fell down after being knocked with his head. He managed to get up and ran away, but the accused chased him. When the complainant fell and lay on his stomach, Masuku produced an okapi knife and stabbed him six times on the back, once on the left thigh and once on the right thigh. He also picked a brick and hit the complainant on his left cheek.”

The prosecutor added that after the brutal assault, Masuku fled the scene, leaving the victim lying injured on the ground. Villagers rushed to help, and police were notified before the victim was sent to hospital for treatment.

Masuku remains in custody as investigations continue, with the court expected to resume proceedings on 10 October 2025.
