Norton Town Council has concluded a US$14 205 public lighting tender, targeting the installation of 48 street lights along Norton Road.

This was revealed by the town secretary Mr Kizito Muhomba, in his report to a full council on Tuesday

Mr Muhomba said the project will be completed in a month.

“The contract period is 45 days and we are on the 20th day,” he said to Zimpapers Online when asked to elaborate further on the project.

In his report, Mr Muhomba also indicated that the local authority also had a tender for the supply of sewer pumps for US$54 600.

“We also expect a supply and delivery of new sewer line material at a cost of US$121 000. I think this is going to be in phases,” he said.

Mr Muhomba also told the full council that Madzima Road, extending from Shonhiwa Drive to Vimbai Secondary School, is under construction.

“It is being funded by Zinara. We hope by the end of November, the contractor will have finished the road,” he said.

“This is going to unlock our last disbursement from Zinara, which is outstanding and once we get that, we will have got all the allocations for us during this budget year.”

Mr Muhomba said preparations for the 2026 budget are progressing well.

“We had successful budget consultation meetings in the formulation of the 2026 budget,” he said.

“We had instances where we rescheduled the meetings and attendance was poor. That challenge has been going on for quite some time, but it is quite important that stakeholders attend these meetings.”

Mr Muhomba said he was advised by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works that the look and learn visit request by councillors to a landfill management will be rescheduled once the ministry lifts the suspension on all look and learn visits.

He said an inception meeting on the feasibility of the water treatment plant was held last week.

“University of Zimbabwe has started a study after the inception meeting,” said Mr Muhomba.
