A SAKUBVA woman dragged her meddlesome neighbour to court, praying for a peace order.

Pamela Goronga and Joseph Gweterere recently appeared at the Mutare Civil Magistrate Court and the presiding magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo, granted the peace order.

Goronga told the court that her nosey neighbour, Gweterere, was in the habit of insulting and harassing her.

According to Goronga, the bad blood between them started at the beginning of the year when Gweterere insulted and accused her of being a sex worker.

“Our houses share a small fence and every time he sees me, it is either he shouts, sings provocative lyrics or calls me names. He recently told my husband that he was in love with a lady of loose morals, saying he had the audacity and was strong enough to be with me since everyone sleeps with me. We have had a strained relationship ever since. He humiliates me a lot, even with insults around people,” charged Goronga.

Gweterere admitted insulting Goronga, but claimed it was a misunderstanding that once happened, and she has been using it against him.

“I don’t have a problem with her getting a peace order. We barely speak anyway. I insulted her, yes, but not every time I see her. We once had a heated moment,” said Gweterere.

However, Goronga expressed concern over her safety, citing an incident which happened last month where Gweterere shouted at her and threatened her in front of her family.

“I am worried about my safety, given the way Joseph Gweterere behaves. He shouts at the top of his voice, even threatening me in front of my family. It is embarrassing and intimidating. Despite his young age, his actions are concerning. I am afraid he might turn violent one day, as he almost assaulted me in his moment of madness,” she said.

Ms Gumbo granted the peace order, stating that such behaviour was unacceptable, especially between two neighbours.

She ordered Gweterere to keep peace with his neighbours or risk being sent to prison because of his behaviour.

“As neighbours, you are expected to live in peace and respect each other. I expect you to adhere to the terms of this peace order and maintain a peaceful relationship with your neighbour,” ruled Ms Gumbo.
