The protection of National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) cargo, personnel, rail infrastructure, and assets is essential for the parastatal to reclaim its strategic position in regional and national logistics, board chairperson Dr Misheck Sibanda has declared.
Dr Sibanda made these remarks at the pass-out parade for 59 trainee security officers under the Loss Control and Security Services, held at the Westgate Security Training Centre in Bulawayo on Tuesday. Of the 59 graduates, 24 were women.
He emphasized that the NRZ is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economic infrastructure and a key enabler of industrialisation, trade, and the movement of goods.
“For NRZ to reclaim its strategic position in regional and national logistics, the protection of rail infrastructure, cargo, personnel and assets is non-negotiable. This is where you, the graduating trainees, come in,” said Dr Sibanda.
He noted that throughout their training, the graduates were equipped with critical skills in foot drill, silent drill, unarmed defence, statutory laws relevant to NRZ operations, ethics, and other essential security competencies. Dr. Sibanda said these skills have prepared the graduates to operate confidently in environments that demand vigilance, discipline, and professionalism.
“Security is not merely about guarding property but instead it is about safeguarding national progress.
Every locomotive that moves, every consignment delivered, every passenger transported safely contribute directly to the economic growth envisaged in Vision 2030,” said Dr Sibanda.
