to serenade guests at an Africa Day dinner dance to be held at Mayfair Lodges and Restaurants.
Nyabinde, who has become a household name in Harare together with musicians of similar stature, will certainly rock Bindura like not other, in a bid to widen his fan base.
Diners from Harare, Bindura and its environs will be spoilt for choice as they will nibble and wiggle from both good food and music throughout the night.
There will be a buffet dinner with a variety of African dishes, a glass of umqomboti and, of course, some soothing vibes to make the food palatable.
Renowned for his highly poetic lyrics, “The Headmaster” will illuminate the bash with a classical performance, which he says has become “his preferred way of doing things”.
His music, which incisively explores social ills affecting people, has since elevated him as a great philosopher and poet in the mould of the late Marshall Munhumumwe, whose lyrics were culturally rich and educative.
To most diners and revellers, there is no doubt that their focus will be on Nyabinde’s songs like “Pane Nyaya” among others, which seek to interrogate some of the social issues that people encounter in their day-to-day lives.
“Ichokwadi Here” is one highly philosophical song that captivates listeners like no other.
In the song, he asks thought-provoking questions like: “Ichokwadi here kuti zvidhakwa hazvina musoro? . . . Ichokwadi here kuti vafundisi imhombwe?”
Some of the songs that revellers should look forward to include “Ndiratidze Mumwechete”, and the award-winning “Chabuda Hapana”.
“Chabuda Hapana” won him the Zimbabwe Music Awards for the Best Jazz Artiste in 2003 and a nomination in the National Annual Merit Awards (best selling album category) the following year.
Mayfair Lodges and Restaurants spokesperson Kudakwashe Matutu said tomorrow’s event will afford the Bindura community an opportunity to network and forget the hassles of office life.
It will certainly be a joyous night whose beautiful afrojazz sounds would reverberate into the night.
