FORMER Buffaloes left back, Mike Nyamukasa is working towards establishing a soccer academy in Zimbabwe and Mozambique where he is based.
Nyamukasa, who is turning out for Maxaquene ,said everything was in place save for a few final touches on the paperwork.
“Everything is in place as I speak and the academy will be opening its doors soon. I love football and the aim behind opening an academy is just for the love of the game and also to leave a legacy just like Jomo Sono of South Africa. I don’t play soccer for money, but it is my life. I have realised that most youths spend their time doing nothing and will end up being involved in drugs and alcohol abuse, so an academy will help them greatly,” he added.
Nyamukasa was born and bred in Chitungo section of Sakubva and spent most of his childhood playing soccer locally.
In 2002 at the age of 16, he joined CPMZ, a then Division One outfit.
He left the club the following year and joined Buffaloes, but only played for six months.
It was his rich vein of form that took him to Thomas Mapfumo’s Sporting Lions in 2004.
He also had a stint with Buymore FC and NYD of Harare.
In 2005, the veteran defender crossed the borders to try his luck in the neighbouring country Mozambique where he joined Texta Africa.
The following year he joined Maxaquene and played for four seasons and moved to Ferovario Maputo in 2009.
The following year, Nyamukasa joined Ferovario of Beira and in 2011 to 2013 he played for Texta De Pungwe Beira.
In 2014 he came back home to join troubled army side, Buffaloes but played for less than a season before joining Maxaquene again this year.
Maxaquene is one of the oldest and biggest clubs in Mozambique. So far, the club has played a total of 20 games and has amassed 31 points and are only three points shy of log leaders, Coasta Dol Sol.
Nyamukasa could not hide his burning desire to adorn the national team jersey and also believes he deserves a chance to play for the Warriors.
