A 26-year-old Nyanga man was hauled before the magistrates’ court facing charges of theft and assault after he stole beer from a Chibuku delivery truck before manhandling the employees on delivery during Christmas day.

The court heard that on December 25 last year, Kusaziya Nyahukwe and Moses Nyakudziwanza were delivering beer at Nyatate Business Centre when they discovered that someone had stolen beer from the delivery truck.

The two hatched a plan to hide in the truck lest the thief would pounce again.

Within a short space of time, the accused, Felix Nyamufinama, came back to steel but as he stretched his hand to grab a Super Chibuku pack he was apprehended.

Sensing danger Nyamufinama hit Nyahukwe with a fist on the left cheek and ran away. After some reconciliation, the employees on delivery discovered that five packs had been stolen.

The complainants made a police report and on the following day police detectives proceeded to Nyatate Business Centre and investigations were instituted leading to Nyamufinama’s arrest.

They recovered a pack of Super Chibuku from Mutigwa Bar at the same business centre where the accused had left it for safe keeping. Nyamufinama pleaded guilty to the charges but admitted to have stolen only two packs.

The stolen beer was valued at USD $30.
