OBIDIENCE NYAUMWE was in a class of his own as he got the better of 63 other competitors at the 2017 annual Carling Black Label National Pool Finals at Mutare Motoring Club in Mutare over the weekend. Nyaumwe, from Chitungwiza, returned to the tournament a more determined player after he failed to go past the first round in last year’s edition in Gweru. The 28-year-old Nyaumwe said he had prepared well for the tourney.

“I am happy that I managed to win and the level of competition was very high. It is every player’s wish to win at a tournament of this magnitude and I hope to continue working hard,” he said. “I also thank the sponsors Delta Beverages and the Zimbabwe Pool Association for continuing to host the premier pool tournament,” said Nyaumwe.

Nyaumwe saw off the challenge of Paul Taderera after beating him 2-0 in the final. Gift Mutumwi and Benjamin Mabhungu squared of for third place with the former winning 2-1.

For his efforts Nyaumwe went home $1000 richer, second placed Taderera received $600 with third-placed Mutumwi recieving $300 and Mabhugu got $200. Other players in the top eight received $100 each while the women’s title went to Priscilla Chisoro of Bulawayo who pocketed $1 000.

Chisoro got the better of Emma Chirebvu 2-1 in the final. The CBL National Pool Championships has become the largest pool tournament in the country with over 2 150 pool players participating, starting from the regional competitions. This year saw an increase of about 150 players, compared to last year.
