A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Nyazura has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a six-year-old girl.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said: “A 23-year-old man from Nyazura appeared before the Rusape Magistrates’ Court on rape charges.
“On the 15th of October 2024, the accused person approached the 6-year-old girl, who was outside a kitchen hut and carried her to a nearby hill. They got into a cave and he ordered her to remain silent.
“The accused person removed the complainant’s clothes before raping her. After committing the offence, he ordered her to return home.
“The matter came to light the following day when the complainant confided in her grandmother about the offence. A police report was made leading to the arrest of the accused person.”
According to the NPA, the man pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
