THE much anticipated online comedy series, Hezvo! TV, was launched at a packed event at the Book Café in Harare on Tuesday.
Entertainment at the launch was provided by afro-jazz musician Tinashe Makura and his band, with Simuka Comedy productions stand-up comedians Louis, Shingi, Simba aka “Comic King” and Doc “Tha Killa” providing laughs galore.
Guest of honour, internationally acclaimed stand-up comedian Carl Joshua Ncube praised the initiative of online entertainment, saying that it is the same as live interaction because viewers immediately give their responses.
With the first and second episodes of the show having already been aired on Facebook and YouTube and receiving thousands of hits, the producers of the show are looking forward to a boom in online television viewing.
Hezvo! TV executive producer Chido Sachikonye told guests that the show was receiving feedback from Zimbabweans as far afield as the USA, Australia, Europe and the Middle East.
“We wanted people not only to view the show, but to participate as well.
“A person can send a funny video, picture or sound clip and stand a chance of winning US100 00, which is quite a lot of money,” she said.
Sachikonye highlighted the importance of humour in people’s lives as a health benefit and also as a social builder.
“If we laugh at each other then we are also laughing together. And if we are laughing together then it means we are united,” she added.
Examples of funny clips shown on the show include an old woman singing “Musarove Big Man” by Winky D and a vegetable vendor selling carrots whilst singing a song out of tune.
Sponsors of the TV series include Zimbojam, Mutupo Clothing and Pamberi Trust, with the Book Cafe providing the launch venue for free.
