The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) yesterday consoled the Manungo family following the passing on of Miss Kundayi Manungo, daughter to the Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr Willard Manungo, who died in a road traffic accident last Thursday.

She was an architect with the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority.

She died while coming from Mutare where she had attended the commissioning of the renovated old Zimra Customs House.

Speaking at her funeral wake in Harare yesterday, Deputy Chief Secretary in the OPC, Reverend Paul Damasane, said it was never an easy task for a parent to bury their child.

He said the OPC shared grief with Mr Manungo and the Manungo family, and they pray that the family finds strength.

“We want to pass our condolences to our brother and colleague at the loss of his daughter,” said Rev Damasane. “It never is anything that is usual because we have grown to know that you bury your parents and your elders not the other way round.

“So, it is a loss that we ask God to help him and the rest of the family to handle. We want to say to VaManungo, ‘may God grant you comfort in this difficult time’,” he said.

Chairman of the Public Service Commission Dr Vincent Hungwe also mourned Miss Manungo.

“We commiserate with Mr Manungo and his entire family for this sad loss,” said Dr Hungwe. “It is never easy to lose your child and to lose her in such circumstances, road accident, it’s very painful and sad. We pray that he and his family find comfort in this difficult time.”

The funeral wake at the Manungo family home in Glen Lorne, Harare, was attended by several senior Government officials.

A family spokesperson told The Herald that Miss Manungo’s body will be taken to Shurugwi today where she will be buried tomorrow.
