The Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe has de-registered over 350 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, optometrists and dispensing opticians after they failed to pay the annual fees as required by the law governing their practice.
In a statement, registrar of the council Mr Alois Karonga said in terms of the Health Professions Act, the organisation had, with effect from October 18, deregistered or erased persons listed for failure to follow the regulations.
Those that have been deregistered are no longer entitled to practice their professions in Zimbabwe as they are deemed removed from the appropriate registers as kept by the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe.
According to the schedule published by the Pharmacists Council of Zimbabwe, at least 150 pharmacy technicians have been deregistered, while the same number of pharmacists have been removed.
At least 30 optometrists were deregistered while one dispensing optician was delisted. In an interview yesterday, Mr Karonga said the pharmacists failed to pay their annual fees to the regulatory body.
“A person who has been de-registered is no longer allowed to practice as an optometrist, pharmacist, dispensing optician, pharmacy technician and hearing or specialist in Zimbabwe,” he said. — Herald Reporter
