SONGBIRD Pah Chihera celebrated her birthday on Monday.
She turned 32.
In an interview with H-Metro, Pah Chihera said:
“I grew up in a family of five where I am the last born. I was afforded basic education.
“It wasn’t fancy but it was comfortable and I am grateful.
“My father passed away when I was in primary school, so my mother took over and she did everything in her capacity to fend for us.
“I can proudly say we never lacked anything.
“I owe it to my mother for putting us first and working so hard with the limited resources she had as a widow.”
Asked about the challenges faced by female artists, she said:
“As a woman in music, you have to work two fold what a man does as you don’t want to be vulnerable to men.
“The world is full of vultures who are ready to take advantage if you are weak.”
Pah Chihera said her heart bleeds for the less privileged people, especially women.
“Recently, I ran a cancer donation plea for a lady who had cancer and she got help.
“Sadly, she succumbed to the cancer as it had spread all over her body.
“Given the platform I can help more underprivileged women.
“Ndiri Chihera handimbunyikidziwe, just kidding, an element of force and abuse are part of growing up as a woman but how you overcome and rise matters most.
“It’s in the past but we are not defined by it.”
She said she owes her success to God.
“I would like to thank God the Almighty for the gift of life, haisi nyore kusvika pa 32 years.
“It’s not my wisdom but it’s God’s grace, some of my age mates failed to reach this far.
“I promise more entertaining music to all my fans. I am celebrating the day at home with my daughter Ano and then on Thursday I will be at Bar Rouge for a ladies night where I will be performing,” she said.
