PAP to become legislative body

transformation of the PAP will result in the organisation making binding decisions that would be beneficial to Africa.

He said the issue of transformation of the PAP was on the agenda of the just ended 18th Ordinary Session of the African Union.
“It failed because the Ministers of Justice and Attorney Generals are yet to meet but we are hoping that they will be meeting soon to pave the way for Head of States to accede to it or not,” Cde Gumbo said.

He said the Permanent Representatives’ Council, which is composed of ambassadors from the AU member states, has already endorsed the transformation.

Cde Gumbo said the African Union Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, has now been ratified by 15 member countries.
He said the Charter was adopted on January 30, 2007 during the 8th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union.
