THE shocking case of Pastor Bothwell Phiri, who allegedly shot his own son after mistaking him for a burglar, has been sent back for further investigation!
The River of Life International Church leader, facing attempted murder charges, was set to appear in court last Thursday, but authorities flagged ambiguities in the case, delaying proceedings.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development: “The suspect was due in court, but the case was referred back for further scrutiny. He will appear soon.”
In Kumalo Suburb, Bulawayo, Pastor Phiri, armed with his licensed firearm, fired at his son Jordan, 29, after mistaking him for an intruder.
Jordan had arrived late from the family plot in Esigodini and attempted to enter through a window.
The bullet struck him in the groin, and his father rushed him to UBH upon realizing his mistake.
The incident has sparked a heated national debate: Should pastors carry guns?
