Premier Soccer League debutants, Chegutu Pirates will soon use Pfupajena Stadium as its home ground as its upgrade is now 95 percent complete.
Located at the centre of Chegutu’s Pfupajena high-density suburb, the stadium is being upgraded to meet Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) standards.
A local small-scale miner and football enthusiast, Timothy Masviba has joined hands with Chegutu Municipality, the custodian of the stadium, to renovate the facility.
The upgrading of the stadium dovetails with President Mnangagwa’s call for Zimbabweans to take part in developing their country in line with the “nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” mantra.
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo visited the facility yesterday and commended the work being done.
“This is a sign that our children are rallying behind President Mnangagwa’s call for them to build their nation and uplift the faces of their towns,” she said.
Some of the work that has been done so far include the installation of bucket seats, construction of state-of-the-art ablution facilities, and a double wall durawall.
Chegutu Pirates is currently at the bottom of the PSL log, and has been using Ngezi Platinum’s Baobab Stadium as its home ground.
Their supporters believe that the lack of home advantage has been the biggest reason for the team’s poor performance.
