Pink carnival celebrations to be held in Mutare

MANICALAND will tomorrow (Saturday) host the International Women’s Day celebrations at Rukweza in Makoni South.

Today (Friday), the province will host the first ever Pink Carnival celebrations in Mutare and it is being organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development.

The Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development provincial head, Ms Chido Tsinakwadi-Madiwa, said the event was about celebrating the achievements of Zimbabwean women.

Said Ms Tsinakwadi-Madiwa: “We are expecting women from all walks of life to exhibit their products and showcase their talents during the event.”

She applauded Government for introducing various legal instruments as well as enshrining gender equality in the Constitution which has seen the advancement of the girl child.

“Government has done quite a lot towards the upliftment of Zimbabwean woman. It is quite evident by looking at the legal instruments and equality measures that have been enshrined in the constitution,” she said.

Ms Tsinakwadi-Madiwa, however, said there was still more work to be done in empowering women in the mining, agriculture and manufacturing sectors as they were largely male dominated.

She went on to invite the nation to come as a whole to the Pink Carnival celebrations and join the women of Zimbabwe celebrate their womanhood.
