GOVERNMENT’S funding of local authorities’ key projects has continued changing lives for citizens with people at Chiware Business Centre in Makoni District being the latest beneficiaries after getting taped water.

The business centre, which is about 20km on the outskirts of Rusape along the Rusape-Wedza Highway has over 100 houses and business that will benefit from the project.

More homes will be connected to the pipeline as the centre grows.

Makoni Rural District Council chief executive officer, Dr Edward Pise said the project cost $7 million, adding that devolution funds availed by Government were used to fund the project.

“The connection of 100 houses at Chiware Business Centre to a piped water scheme has been completed at a cost of $7m. We used devolution funds to make this possible. Chiware is growing every year and the demand for water is rising.

“Residents could not continue fetching water from unprotected sources. We are grateful to Government for the timely intervention,” said Dr Pise.

Ward 16 Councillor Timothy Chigwende said the tapped water will go a long way in addressing water, sanitation and hygiene issues at the centre.

“The availability of clean and safe at Chiware Business Centre was giving us headaches as residents were resorting to unsafe sources. Some people who bought stands there were reluctant to start construction because of the non-availability of water.

“Residents were begging for water in the villages. With tapped water now available, we expect the centre to grow,” said Councillor Chingwende.
