A number of motorists mostly those importing second hand vehicles from Japan and other countries who were caught unawares were arrested and fined.
Prior to the new order, importers would proceed to their respective destinations without displaying temporary registration plates pending registration in various centres across the country.
National Traffic police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luckmore Chakanza yesterday said the arrests were in line with the country’s traffic regulations.
