Police hail media

Panashe Gwesu
NATIONAL police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, has hailed the media for maintaining good relations.

Addressing members of the media, during the belated World Press Freedom Day commemorations on Saturday, he said:

“I want to applaud the media in Zimbabwe, I know previously there was an acrimonious relationship between the media and the police.

“We were not seeing eye-to-eye, we were enemies but I want to thank you guys with the support which you have given us.”

He highlighted the significance of the media to the police.

“We cannot link with the community on a daily basis, we are able to do it through the media and some of the reports, which come to us, are through you.”

He called for continuous engagements between the media and the police.

The event was conducted by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA).
