Masvingo Correspondent
THREE men from Mutare were arrested at a roadblock in Masvingo after being found with six kilogrammes of dagga in their vehicle. The trio, Innocent Chipangai, 29, of Sakubva, Lewis Chengetai Matsvimbo, 34, and Zachariah Luke of Chikanga Phase 3, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Masvingo provincial magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla on Tuesday charged with unlawful possession and dealing in dangerous drugs.

Mkandla heard how the trio was intercepted by alert police officers at a roadblock along Masvingo-Mutare Road on Friday last week.
Prosecuting, James Murambiza said the trio was travelling towards Mutare using an unregistered Toyota Regius vehicle driven by Chipangai.

“Upon arriving at the 2km-peg along the same road, the vehicle was stopped by police manning a roadblock who conducted a search leading to the recovery of a satchel and one bag, all containing dagga,” said Murambiza.

He said the three men were arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) where the dagga was weighed in their presence.

It was realised that the dangerous drug weighed a total of 6,460kg.
The drug was presented in court as an exhibit.
The three were remanded in custody to June 17.
