A police officer has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping his daughter.

The 47-year-old, who repeatedly abused his Grade 7 daughter at their home, appeared before Zvishavane Magistrates’ Court.

A statement issued by The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe said, “One night in August 2024, the man returned home drunk and forced himself on his daughter. He then threatened her and told her not to report the matter.”

The court heard that in January 2025, the man fondled his daughter and expressed his desire to be intimate with her.

He was interrupted by the arrival of the girl’s stepmother, and he threatened her into silence again.

The young girl later confided in her friend’s teacher, who helped her report the abuse.

A medical examination confirmed the rape, leading to the arrest and the conviction of the police officer.
