Police in Gweru have arrested a Mkoba 2 woman following complaints from neighbours who alleged that her residence had become a hub for disruptive gatherings.
Brilliant Gwedegwe was taken into custody after a police raid on her home, which residents claim had turned into a frequent venue for parties and social meet-ups that often ran late into the night.
According to sources most of people who frequented the house parties were members of the LGBTIQ community.
A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest, saying the charge sheet cites allegations of creating a public nuisance.
“I can confirm that an arrest was made following complaints from the community. The charge being preferred relates to nuisance, as outlined in the relevant statutes,” said the source.
The raid follows weeks of mounting tension in the neighbourhood, with residents accusing Gwedegwe of hosting regular gatherings that they described as disorderly.
One neighbour said the house had effectively become an “illegal party spot,” alleging that loud music, increased traffic, and late-night activity had become a constant feature.
“We have been sleepless nights because of the noise and the influx of people at odd hours. It was no longer just a home, but a place for continuous parties,” the neighbour said.
Residents had reportedly lodged several complaints with authorities before police moved in.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details regarding the case, and Gwedegwe is expected to appear in court soon.
Police have urged members of the public to resolve disputes amicably but to also report any activities that disturb community peace through proper channels.
