The resolution was passed at the association’s annual general meeting that was held at Raylton Recreation Hall on Saturday.
In changing the number of frames the association noted that the 13 frames did not make provisions for a draw result. This meant that every game had to have a winner and a loser, a situation that had resulted in some games being abandoned as teams were desperate to achieve a result.
The meeting voted resoundingly in favour of the move with 53 delegates for the motion while 15 opposed.
Last year alone four matches were abandoned due to disputes arising from the last frame.
“The 18 frames will thus allow for a draw result which the association hopes will solve the problem of disputed frames,” the outgoing secretary-general Charles Dube told the gathering.
The meeting also upheld the relegation of eight teams to form a lower division. The issue dominated the proceedings and had to be put to vote as it divided the gathering. At least 21 club representatives voted with 16 okaying the split of the league while four voted against. Only one person abstained.
Emganwini, Heroes and Ntabeni did not take part in the vote. They were not represented at the meeting.
The new arrangement will see four teams being relegated with an equal number being promoted in the 2012 season.
According to the secretariat, seven new teams have joined the BPA bringing the total number of teams in the league to 31. Only one slot is left in the lower division which is set to have 16 teams.
A new executive was voted into office with Kings director Godfrey Kondo polling 84 votes to land the chairman’s post ahead of prominent city lawyer and Zifa appeals committee member Charles Paul Moyo who polled 37 votes to become the vice-chairman.
Ephraim Choto of Gold & Black became the secretary-general with businesswoman Noma Manguni landing the treasurer’s post.
The publicity office went to Preston Nyamangara of Kings while the fixtures post for the Premier League and Division One went to John Shoko of JZ Ebunandini and Fortune Tavengwa of Gold and Black respectively. Other committee members are Sipho Mpofu of ONE West Comm’s Fombe, Fast Cash’s Donald Wadawu, Dibangu Mangore of Kings and Peter Dziko of Exchange.
