THE game of pool will for the first time be played at the annual Zimbabwe National Youth Games.
This yearas edition of the games is scheduled for Mashonaland West Province.
Pool has over the years been regarded as a sporting discipline synonymous with alcohol and beer drinking venues but has seen a major transformation with the inclusion of women and young players.
Even school children have taken interest in the game of pool with centres mushrooming in different suburbs.
In the previous years, sporting codes that were on the programme of the games included football, netball, athletics, basketball, boxing, chess, handball, swimming, table tennis and tennis among other disciplines.
a?As from last year we made an application to the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) to introduce pool at the National Youth Games. We have made a number of follow ups and we are happy to say the acting SRC director general Joseph Muchechetere has been very supportive of our idea,a? said Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZIPA) secretary general Munyaradzi Mudimu.
a?If we do not manage to get resources, will just go to the Youth Games and pool will become a demo sport. It will all about showing people that that the sport code is no longer a part time sporting discipline. We will soon be encouraging provinces to get ready with their Under 20 teams that they are going to take for the annual games,a? said Mudimu.
Renowned pool administrator Donald Wadawu said for the sport code to be successfully introduced at the youth games, at least five provinces should come up with teams that are going to represent them at the finals.
Meanwhile, Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) executive and disciplinary committee member Rocker Mbuvah who also served the association as funeral fund chairman has resigned from his positions.
a?It is with deep regret that I submit herewith my letter of resignation with immediate effect from the following positions in the BPA executive- BPA Executive Committee Member, BPA Disciplinary Committee Member and BPA Funeral Fund Chairman,a? partly read Mbuvahas letter which he recently addressed to the associationas secretary-general Nkosi Gatsha.
He cited lack of wish by the associationas decision making board to tackle important issues hinder progress of the association.
a?I am extremely distraught with the decision to leave office prematurely clearly as a result of a lack of desire by the executive to address pertinent issues that impede progress of the association,a? he added.
