The video will be shot in a location in Bulawayo on 5 August and Mabomba is the title track of POY’s album released in January.
In an interview yesterday, Nicholas POY Muchinguri said the video would be one of the front-runners for the video of the year award.
He said they had secured the services of Cyclone Ree so as to show the nation that she can also act besides being a model.
“We were looking for models for the video and we secured the services of Cyclone Ree. We wanted to secure positive publicity for her and show that she can also act,” said POY.
He said the theme of the video would be graphics that would be added to the video and Cyclone Ree would play two roles.
“The video will be in full high definition and graphics will be done by Cutta. We want the video to be for the local and international market,” said POY. He added that the script for the video took a month to develop and it will be released to local television stations.
“The music video will be released on the local market and we developed a script in a month. The reason we want it on the local market is that we have seen that taking it to Channel O, MTv Base and the like is no use as they are not keen on playing music videos produced outside South Africa,” he said.
He urged MultiChoice Zimbabwe to push local videos so that they can get airplay on these musical platforms.
Contacted for comment, Cyclone Ree said she was excited to be in the video.
She said the project would promote local artistes and allow her to showcase her talent in acting.
“The pleasure is all mine since I will be working with local artistes and promoting their music. I have not seen the script and what exactly I will be doing but will do so this week,” said Cyclone Ree.
She said after the music video she would venture into acting as one of her vast talents.
POY, the Almost Famous hit-maker, last year bagged the Zim Hip-Hop People’s Choice Award at 7 Arts theatre in Harare.
