It is a widely held belief that most people turn to God whom they perceive as the answer to their social and economic problems.
Some pastors and prophets have capitalised on this need and are going all out to set “base” in areas where they can attract congregants seeking solutions to various problems in their lives.
High density areas have become ‘lucrative’ venues for most pastors and prophets.
One such church, that has relocated from Raylton Sports Club at the periphery of Harare Central Business District, to Siyaso Market in Mbare is Fire Charismatic Center International led by Prophet Cement Kaseya Walesa from Democratic Republic of Congo.
Last year Prophet Kaseya Walesa trended on social media following an interview on ZTV Good Morning Zimbabwe where midway through the interview, anchor Tracy Sibanda appeared to get into a trance after the prophet gave a prophesy on Zimbabwe.
Since locating to Siyaso, debate has been raging regarding why this church has relocated to such an area.
One trader at Siyaso who identified himself as Jonso said: “Prophet Kaseya Walesa saw a market of people trying to sell their wares or trying to attract business. If one attends a service and by luck or otherwise gets business, definitely that person will believe in the hand of the prophet.
“People are desperate and will try anything they perceive to improve their livelihoods. They will not hesitate to take time and seek the guidance of these prophets.”
But Prophet Kaseya Walesa who calls himself the ambassador of Christ maintains he is on a mission to redefine Mbare and will deliver residents from immorality associated with one of the oldest suburbs.
In an impromptu interview with The Sunday Mail Religion last week, the prophet claimed that in a few months the suburb will be filled with God-fearing people.
Prophet Kaseya Walesa joins the likes of Pastor Paul Sanyangore who are scrambling to spiritually control Harare’s oldest location.
“I started this ministry four years ago and it was doing well. God is leading it.
‘‘We once worshipped at the heart of town and God was doing great things there.
“The place was getting too small then God instructed us to move to this place (Mbare Siyaso Market),” Prophet Kaseya said.
“Mbare is known for bad things, thieves, con-man, prostitutes, traditional healers and witch doctors that is why God sent me here.”
He said people do go to church but they are burdened with many evil things like Muti (traditional medicine).
“It is for this cause that God sent me here, we have a granny who was a traditional healer for 20 years, she had clients from all over the country. She came here and God delivered her, now she is in the praise and worship team,” Prophet Kaseya said.
And some of his congregants are happy.
“Many people are claiming to be God-sent and it is becoming more complex to believe these people, but with Prophet Kaseya Walesa, I see a man of God. His teachings tell it all,” said Portia Dude one of the congregants.
