Proteas drop the mic at 418 as Zim pads up for Day Two

SOUTH Africa have thrown down the gauntlet, declaring on their overnight score of 418/9 at Queens Sports Club, forcing Zimbabwe to respond with the bat as day two of the first Test gets underway.
The bold declaration robbed seamer Tanaka Chivanga of a shot at his maiden five-wicket haul, as he remained stranded on four scalps when the Proteas pulled the plug.

Despite a shaky start that saw them slump to 90/4 in the morning session, South Africa stormed back into the match with Lhuan-dre Pretorious stealing the show. The 19-year-old blazed his way to a historic 153, becoming the youngest player to notch up 150 in Test cricket.

Corbin Bosch added salt to Zimbabwe’s wounds with a defiant unbeaten century while Dewald Brevis chipped in with a whirlwind 51 from just 41 balls to keep the scoreboard racing.

Zimbabwe will now look to respond as Brian Bennett and Takudzwanashe Kaitano stride out to the middle with hopes of weathering the Proteas storm.
