CITY of Mutare has been challenged to complement Government’s efforts to revive the country’s tourism sector by maintaining clean environs to boost its status as a pristine metropolis with potential to be a tourist attraction.
Speaking during a clean-up campaign held recently in Mutare, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsekenyeri, said as the provincial capital Mutare can turn into another place of interest if the city maintains cleanliness and orderliness.
This, she added, can boost the city’s profile among other places in Manicaland that are renowned for their breath-taking splendour.
“As we strive to revive the tourism industry, Mutare, as a border city, and a passageway to Mozambique, must be clean and orderly. Our famous hospitality must be reflected in the clean environment we always maintain. Let this clean-up, therefore, restore the sanity of our city’s business centres and communities,” said Minister Matsikenyeri.
Meanwhile, the city’s Environmental Health Officer, Mr Darlington Masango, said in pursuit of proper solid waste management, the local authority was moving ahead to ensure that refuse is collected regularly and on time to keep Mutare spruced up.
