The ever excited humorous Zimbabwe social media took to different platforms after the government announced that it was banning trade in quail birds.
The memes of quail birds range from changing common fast food outlets names to beer brands and even beautiful girls.
Some of the memes read a?The famous Chihutaa? instead of the a?Famous Grousea? and a?Chihuta Slicea? instead of Chicken Slice.
In some of the cases the term Chihuta is used as a pet name to call beautiful ladies, but one outstanding mischievous meme is that of a quail bird replacing the Zimbabwean bird on the flag (ABOVE) a this is illegal by the way.
Quail birds became an instant hit after claims that they had highly nutritious meat and eggs that could heal different ailments and double up as a powerful aphrodisiac.
Government last week moved quickly to ban trade in the birds pending research into their breeding and claims around their nutritional value. The announcement was made by the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri who said that the ministry would have to first validate such claims and come up with proper policy to regulate the fast growing industry.
a?Letas not take things that are not authentic. There is a need for proper research so we are going to engage officials from the ministry of health and agriculture so that we protect the people from conmen. It is a big warning to the breeders that lie that there are benefits that you will get from the birds,a? she said.
