adminLiberty Chikuku (23), Jonanthan Nyongo (26), Ngoni Museka (26) and Dale Kadonha (25) were not asked to plead when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga. They were remanded to January 24 for trial.
Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani told the court that the quartet hatched a plan to steal beans on December 23 last year at Tilco industrial area in Chitungwiza.
Chikuku, who worked for Cold Chain Company, was sent to deliver 30 packs of Heinz baked beans to OK Avonlea in Harare by his manager.
At OK Avonlea, the buyer indicated that he needed only 10 packs and returned the remainder to Chikuku.
Chikuku was issued with a goods return voucher which he was supposed to hand over to his superior.
Instead, Chikuku declared only 10 packs to his superior and asked Kadonha to look for a buyer for the other 10.
Kadonha, together with Nyongo and Museka, took the 10 packs to Nyongo’s place where Kadonha brought the buyer Terrence Maruta who runs a tuckshop. They sold the 10 packs to Maruta.
Cold Chain Company owner Michael Jimmy eventually discovered the anomaly and confronted Chikuku who led to the recovery of the 10 packs from Maruta.
