RACE FOR DEPUTY MAYOR GOES A GEAR UP

THE race for the Chinhoyi Deputy Mayor has moved to another level and is causing tension among Councillors.

The post became vacant after its incumbent, Chipo Mlotshwa, was convicted of fraud.

Councillors Maggie Chidarikire and Voster Mashevedzanwa are battling for that post.

A Councillor told H-Metro having another woman as Deputy Mayor was the best thing for the town.

“Furthermore, it serves as a powerful message to women and girls, encouraging their participation in civic life and demonstrating that leadership roles are accessible to everyone, regardless of gender.

“Electing a woman can help break down gender barriers and promote a more balanced and representative council landscape.”

Another Councillor said:

“There is a general feeling in council that Chidarikire has all the good qualities to be a Deputy Mayor.”

Chidarikire founded Women Evolve in Chinhoyi, an organisation which empowers women.
