A dominant display by Zimbabwe was cut short by rain, as the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Pakistan at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe had posted a competitive total of 205 runs, thanks to a solid batting display led by Sikandar Raza (39) and Richard Ngarava (48). However, just as Pakistan’s chase was getting underway, the rains arrived, reducing the match to 21 overs.
Pakistan’s batting lineup struggled to get going in the truncated match, losing six wickets for just 60 runs. The Zimbabwean bowling attack, led by Raza, Blessing Muzarabani and Sean Williams, was impressive, but the rain ultimately proved to be the deciding factor.
The match was eventually called off, with Zimbabwe declared the winners via the DLS method. The rain interruption denied Pakistan a chance to make a comeback, and the visitors will be hoping for clearer skies in the remaining two matches of the series.
The Zimbabwean team, on the other hand, will be looking to build on this momentum, despite the rain-soaked victory. The hosts will be hoping to wrap up the series in the next match, scheduled to take place tomorrow at the same venue.
