A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Banket has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after breaking down the door to a hut and raping a woman who was sleeping inside.

The sentence was handed down by the Chinhoyi Regional Magistrates’ Court following an incident that occurred on 21 January 2026 at around 8.30PM.

The offender, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, unlawfully forced his way into the victim’s home by knocking down the door. He then grabbed the woman by the neck and demanded sex.
“The accused dragged the complainant from her bedroom, carried her to a nearby bush and raped her once,” said the NPAZ in a statement.

The victim was later found by villagers who had launched a search after her nephew raised the alarm upon noticing that she was missing and that the door to her house had been left wide open.

Police investigations led to the arrest of the offender, who was subsequently prosecuted and convicted.

In condemning the crime, the National Prosecuting Authority described rape as a serious and violent offence that violates the dignity, safety and rights of survivors.
