THE unrepentant rapist, who blamed Tilder Moyo’s radio show for sexually abusing a fellow inmate at Chikurubi Maximum Prison, was sentenced to another 15 years imprisonment.
He was found guilty of aggravated indecent assault for the second time.
Brian Shereni was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment last February.
He committed his latest offence in October last year.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Shereni, 39, was found guilty and jailed by Harare regional magistrate Sandra Mupindu.
Shereni told the court that on the night in question, he and other inmates were listening to the popular radio, which is broadcast on StarFM, and revolves around sex and other domestic issues.
He said the issues which were being discussed on the show aroused him and resulted in him forcing himself on his victim.
Prosecutor Zvikomborero Mupasa produced the extract of Shereni’s conviction and urged the court to impose the maximum sentence as he has proven to be unrepentant.
“He violated the complainant’s rights, while I do appreciate that the offender pleaded guilty and saved the court’s time and apologised to the complainant, there is evidence on record which shows that he’s most likely to commit similar offences as he is unrepentant.
“The aggravating factors outweigh the mitigatory factors hence nothing is stopping this court from imposing the maximum sentence,” he said.
The incident happened in October last year in Cell E at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
