Golfers with handicaps 1-13 will compete in the championship division while those in the 14 to 27 handicaps will take part in the A Division as the 28 and above battle in out in the B Division.
A field of more that 120 junior golfers is expected for this tournament that has been on the calendar for several years and is considered in the junior order of merit.
The absence of last year’s winner Sheldon Steyne means a new champion will be crowned today.
Scott Vincent finished as the 2011 champion in his last year as a junior golfer, having played a few tournaments.
Bret Krog, who took part in last year’s Doral and Orange Bowl Junior Championships in Miami, United States, was the runner-up in the same year that saw Ray Badenhoist coming third as Clive Nguru and Grant Hudson completed the top five.
This year, the standings will be different altogether with most golfers already past their prime and ineligible for today’s tournament.
Chapman will give the young golfers the challenge they so desire.
The 36-hole tournament has all the flavour of a tournament of the magnitude golfers as young as seven will take part in the tournament.
Zimbabwe Junior Golf Union chairman, Roger Baylis, predicted a tough tournament.
“We are hopeful that there will be a good game that is competitive and it is our will for these young golfers to prove their mettle. The tournament will go ahead well if the rains allow us to play but we are hopeful that we will finish the two rounds,” Baylis said.
