Record Highlanders members stampede for Zifa elections

Highlanders Football Club card carrying members are reportedly eyeing the Zifa vice president position at the elections to be held in Harare on 25 January.

Former Zifa vice presidents, Omega Sibanda, Gift Banda, former Zifa board member Peter Dube, Premier Soccer League Chief Executive Kennedy Ndebele and Modern Ngwenya are said to be interested in the position. Apart from Banda, who ran the now defunct Njube Sundowns, but is a known Highlanders person, all other Bulawayo based administrators also held various positions at Highlanders in the past.

Highlanders chairman Kennedy Mhlophe and his secretary general Morgan Dube and former secretary Andrew Tapela are also said to be in the race, with Mhlophe aiming to become Psl chairman, while Tapela and Dube are interested in becoming Zifa board members.

Highlanders women soccer team leader Sibekiwe Ndlovu is said to be interested in becoming a board member as well. Psl champions Simba Bhora have owner Simba Ndoro and his club chairman said to be interested in the race.

Following is an unverified list of would be contestants circulating on social media. The elections will come up with six board members, two vice presidents and one president.
