Renco Mine win Sylvia Dube Memorial tourney

From Ray Bande in Chiredzi
RENCO Mine scored on either side of the break to win the 2013 Sylvia Dube Memorial tournament championship final after outplaying highly fancied Gaza Gunners of Chipinge in an otherwise dull encounter at Chishamiso Stadium here on Saturday.
Man of the match Passmore Mapinganzira was on target 30 minutes into the match and midfielder Njabulo Ncube doubled the scoreline with only a minute remaining of regulation time.

In the third and fourth place play off, veteran midfielder Elliot Matsika, who has previoulsy seen Premiership duties with Dynamos, Shooting Stars and DT Africa United, inspired Ruwa United to get the better of another Chipinge based side Southdown by a solitary goal.
Tournament winners Renco Mine, who were clearly the better side of the two, will most likely have a comfortable 2014 season after walking away with $27 000 while runners up Gunners got $20 000.

The Sylvia Dube Memorial Tournament is a preserve of teams in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One League and is held in memory of Zifa president, Cuthbert Dube’s late wife, Sylvia.

Dube, himself a former Zifa Eastern Region chairman, sponsors the tournament.
By local Division One standards, the tournament is rewarding, given that last year’s edition saw a cool $100 000 being availed as the total sponsorship package.

Last year’s winners, Mutare City Rovers walked away with $20 000. Mutare hosted last year’s finals for the first time in its 12-year history.
