BULAWAYO residents who fail to submit receipts for their reserved graves will in three months lose them, Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has said.
BCC’s senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu said the local authority is in the process of updating its register for reserved graves and those found wanting will lose them.
Mpofu said starting from August 10, residents who fail to produce valid grave reservation certificates will lose them.
“Evidence of grave reservation certificates should be submitted to Tower Block, 1st or 2nd Floor, or scanned and emailed to [email protected]. Failure to do this will result in these reservations being forfeited and allocated to others, three months from the date of the notice (10th May 2016),” said Mpofu.
She said the most affected are those who obtained the grave reservation certificates before 2011.
“The City of Bulawayo will be carrying out an exercise to update its records for reserved graves. We’re calling on all residents and relatives of people who made reservations of graves at Council cemeteries prior to 2011 to come and show evidence (grave reservation certificates) that their reservations are still valid,” she said.
Mpofu said council has observed that although some residents were paying for the graves they were not submitting their receipts.
