Harare City Council has received a major boost after Group Five and Bitumen World volunteered to rehabilitate some of the city’s roads in a social corporate responsibility and as a gesture to the Government.
The two companies were contracted by Government through the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration to rehabilitate the country’s major highways.

The city says $400 million is required to rebuild the road network which is facing collapse due to effects of the weather and lack of maintenance.
Speaking at a Press conference to introduce the social partners, Town Clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi said Group Five would initially work on Cripps Road, while Bitumen World would concentrate on Seke Road.
“There will be road reseal on the stretch of Rotten Row from Samora Machel to Robert Mugabe Way and pothole patching from the corner of Robert Mugabe and Rotten Row up to Cripps Road,” he said.
“Major reseal work will be on Seke Road from Dieppe to Kenneth Kaunda. While the partners will be working on the said roads, City of Harare road gangs will be concentrating on other city roads. This is part of our enhanced service delivery focus.”
Bitumen World representative Mr Andre Zietsman said his company was grateful to Zinara and Government for affording it a chance to work on the country’s roads.
“We believe it is the right thing for us to do. We believe other companies should do the same,” he said.
Group Five International projects director (Zimbabwe) Mr Ham Coetzee said it was an honour for his company to partner with Government and Zinara in the road project.
“Zimbabwe has been good to us and we appreciate what Zinara has been doing for us,” he said.
Acting Zinara chief executive Engineer Moses Juma said it was good that the two companies had volunteered to rehabilitate the city’s roads.
