A 33-YEAR-OLD notorious robber, believed to be part of a gang terrorising people along the Limpopo River, was last Friday jailed for an effective three years after he robbed a police detective on patrol in the same area. Elias Kapito Gudza of no fixed abode in Beitbridge, but is from Mahleremu Village under Chief Gororo in Chivi denied the charge of armed robbery when he appeared before Mr Innocent Bepura.
He was convicted on the strength of overwhelming evidence, and will serve three years effective. The prosecutor Mr Foster Abheki told the court that on December 4, 2013 the complainant Chapo Muonde, who is a police detective, teamed up with other officers and proceeded to the Limpopo River where they posed as border jumpers.
Gudza, who was in the company of Tawanda Jari who is already serving a jail term for the same offence, approached the detectives armed with knives. They forcibly took a Nokia cellphone from Muonde who produced his police identification card and a service pistol and fired a shot in the air.
