A 23-year-old man has been handed an eight-year prison sentence for a brazen robbery in Beitbridge, where he brutally stabbed his victim and made off with two stolen cellphones.

On November 10, 2024, Gerald Gumbodete launched a brutal attack on Avant Mugweva in Beitbridge, inflicting five stab wounds with an okapi knife.

Gumbodete took two cellphones from Mugweva, and later Mugweva was able to identify his recovered iPhone by recognising personal photos on the device.

“Stolen items were recovered from Gumbodete including the blood-stained knife used in the attack,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
