A MALE nurse at Mutare Provincial Hospital last week fell prey to three robbers and was robbed $800 after he had disembarked from a car at St Augustine’s Turn-off.Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the robbery and said the suspects were still at large.
He said police were working round the clock to bring the suspects to book.
“On the day in question, the nurse, Wellington Gapara (28), who stays in Tsvingwe Township disembarked from a car at around 8pm at the St Augustine’s Turn-off and started walking home.
“When he reached a bushy area along the road, Gapara was approached by the three robbers and one of immediately grabbed him from behind and ordered him to surrender everything that he had,” said Asst Insp Chananda.
“Gapara tried to resist, but he was overpowered by the three men. One of the robbers searched his pockets and robbed him $800 before the trio fled.”
Gapara, who escaped without any injuries later made a police report. Asst Insp Chananda discouraged people from moving around with large sums of money, saying this makes them vulnerable to robbers.
