A 38-YEAR-OLD woman from Chirenje Village in Chief Chiweshe’s area has been sentenced to 24 months in prison, with six months suspended, after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of dagga.

In a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, Patience Moyona (38) was arrested on August 28, 2025, at a police roadblock along the Harare-Mukumbura Highway.

Officers conducted a routine search on a bus travelling from Harare to Chiweshe and discovered dagga in her possession.

According to court records, police officers found two black plastic bags containing dagga weighing 0,78 grammes hidden inside a black satchel, wrapped in a brown jacket.

Moyona will serve an effective 18-month jail term. The NPAZ has reminded the public that drug possession and trafficking are serious offences that destroy communities and fuel other forms of crime.
