THE Eastern Region Division One 2015 league season has gone past its halfway mark and Premiership promotion hopefuls, Mutare City Rovers will be back at Sakubva Stadium for a date against unpredictable Gaza Gunners on Sunday. As the season progresses, the competition for Premiership promotion naturally gets stiffer with the top seven teams still enjoying a fair chance of clinching the coveted title.
Log leaders, Hartley Academy, second placed correctional services side Tenax, Mutare City Rovers, Prime Rangers, Masvingo City, Masvingo United and Mutoko Traders make up the list of team currently in the top seven on the log table. However, it remains to be seen whether Mutare City Rovers, the team which narrowly missed on Premiership promotion last season, will be consistent in the second half of the season.
Magusha, as City Rovers are affectionately referred to by their fans have made no secret about their intentions to gain promotion into the top-flight league. In a statement, Mutare City Rovers spokesperson, Clayton Masekesa reaffirmed his teams’ Premiership promotion aspirations.
“Now that we are beginning the second half of the season this weekend with a home match against Gaza Gunners, it is our wish and desire to keep in the premiership contention.
“We understand that the second half of the season comes with surprises and more competition as teams race towards the Promised Land, but as Mutare City Rovers we will fight till the end where we hope to achieve our objective of being promoted. “Our executive, technical staff and players are doing everything to make sure that we achieve our goal. I want to take this opportunity to thank all our beloved supporters whom I want to call Gusha Bhora partners for their unwavering support.
“I want to encourage them to continue rallying behind the team. It is also this opportunity for the Mutare business community and football lovers to come and partner us and sail together to the Promised Land. I am now calling all Mutareans and the province at large to come and make a collective effort to sustain the team so that we will smile at the end of the season,” reads part of the statement from Masekesa.
Elsewhere in the league, in-form Tenax will travel to Masvingo for a clash against Gutu in a match that the correctional services side needs to win to remain in contention for the league title.
