RECENTLY it was good news that Chicken Inn new coach Rahman a?Rusha? has quit his old habit for good.
Yes, it was a tale of good transformation when he changed from being a chain-smoker to a dedicated member and elder with Rhema Gospel Light Ministry Church.
But for the Chicken Inn Football Club gaffer there seems to be another habit which needs to die.
He should be reminded that children are a blessing from God and should not be neglected in any way.
This follows court details in which the Chicken Inn Football Club head coach is entangled in a bruising child maintenance dispute with a city woman who is accusing him of having failed or neglected to provide support.
In her suit papers, filed under case Number 1317 /16 at the Bulawayo Maintenance court, the woman, Phiwe Mpofu, employed as a court interpreter at the Bulawayo Magistratesa Court begged the court to compel the soccer coach to provide reasonable support towards the upkeep of his 10-year-old son.
Mpofu says she cannot afford to look after their child alone and indicated in her summons that the court should order the father of her child to contribute a monthly maintenance of $120 to cover the childas school fees, groceries, medical expenses and clothing among other expenses.
a?I am seeking maintenance for the child from the respondent in terms of the Maintenance Act (Chapter 5:09) to cover groceries, medical expenses, clothing, rent among other expenses. The respondent (Gumbo) is the responsible person legally liable to maintain the under mentioned dependant (the child) and I wish to claim a monthly maintenance of $120,a? reads part of her submissions.
The applicant apparently resolved to take the legal route after the respondent had failed or neglected to provide reasonable support for his child.
Mpofu further maintained that Gumbo was legally liable to pay the money since he is employed as a head coach by Chicken Inn.
a?I am employed at the Bulawayo Magistratesa Court and cannot afford to look after the child alone. Gumbo is the person legally liable to pay the money ($120 per month) since he is a man of means who is gainfully employed by Chicken Inn Football Club as a head Coach and earns approximately $4 000 per month,a? she said.
Gumbo was however, conspicuous by his absence at the court on Tuesday despite the fact that he was served with the papers.
In his ruling presiding magistrate Batanai Tuhwe however, granted a default judgment in which he ordered Gumbo to pay $120 per month towards the upkeep of his child with effect from 31 July.
