Sungura maestro, Alick Macheso’s fans in Bulawayo, Gweru and Plumtree will be the first to sample songs from his forthcoming album when he stages a series of shows there this weekend. Backed by his Orchestra Mberikwazvo band, Macheso, affectionately known as Baba Sharo will share the Bulawayo Amphitheatre stage with talented guitarist, Progress Chipfumo on Saturday.
This will be Chipfumo and his band – Sounds of the Motherland’s first time to perform in Bulawayo. But before coming to Bulawayo, Macheso and Chipfumo will first perform at the Midlands Hotel in Gweru tomorrow. On Sunday, they will head to Plumtree where they will perform at Dumms Palace.
Tickets to the shows have been pegged at $5. They will only be available on the days of the shows as there are no advance tickets. Macheso said his much-awaited 10th album would finally be released towards end of this month.
“We haven’t been frequenting Bulawayo as we’ve been hard at work, perfecting tracks on our new album. Fans there will have the privilege to sample the yet-to-be-released tracks on Saturday,” Macheso said. He said the title of six-track album was being kept close to his chest as he did not want music pirates to rob people by selling fake pirated copies.
“Regrettably I can’t reveal the name of the songs or the album now because music pirates will print fake CDs with covers which will have the album name and sell it to people. And when people play the CDs, they’ll discover they’ll have been duped as the new songs that would’ve been on the cover will not be there,” he said.
The album which follows 2013 release, Kwatakabva Mitunhu (Kure kweKure), will be released in Harare only.
