ZIMBABWE Sables captain, Hilton Mudariki attributed the success of the national team to the enabling environment which has been made possible by the Sables Trust.

The Sables currently enjoy an unbeaten run in 2024, with the skipper attributing the growth of the team during the year to the provision of many competitive games.

“For us, obviously we’ve managed to get the results that we were after but I think we’ve grown a lot as a team both on and off the field and I think just playing games continuously has definitely helped us.

“In the past we’ve played maybe three games and then that’s the end of the season but this year the Union and the Trust have made an effort for us to have a lot more games and I think this has stood us in good stead,” Mudariki.

Zimbabwe currently enjoy a winning run extending to 11 games, and still remain unbeaten during the 2024 season.

Mudariki believes the purple patch the team has enjoyed on the field of play is a way of rewarding the support the team has received from the ZRU and the Sables Trust efforts that has been put into

“I think it’s just the belief, and the motivation from obviously starting to the top and what the ZRU and what the Sables Trust are doing, they have shown us that they’re willing to do everything that they possibly can do to make us successful.

“As a team you know rewarding them the efforts that they’ve put in over the last couple of months for us to be able to get what we need to get in order for us to perform on the field is for us as players to perform on the field,” said the Sables skipper.

Despite the Sables having won their first Africa Cup in 12 years after beating Algeria 29-3, the Sables captain believes the biggest highlight for 2024 was their memorable win against arch rivals Namibia which ranks as their biggest achievement.

“Winning the Africa is definitely up there, something that has not been done in a long time, but I think if I am to pick one moment, probably that will be the Namibia win,” said Mudariki.
