THE late veteran journalist and media guru Samuel Mkhithika is set to be honoured with a heartfelt memorial service on 26 July, bringing together family, friends and former colleagues to celebrate a towering figure in Zimbabwe’s media landscape.

Mkhithika, a former ZBC manager, was more than just a newsman. He was a mentor, teacher and trailblazer who helped shape the voices behind Zimbabwe’s radio and television waves. He founded the BES School of Journalism in Bulawayo and later ran a media consultancy under Thebe Media Communities, where he continued to mould talent and push for community storytelling.

He passed away ON 30 July 2021, from COVID-19 complications, leaving behind a legacy that still echoes in the corridors of media houses across the country.

His son Vusumuzi Mkhithika said the memorial service will be held at the family home in Lower Gweru.

“The family has organized this event to honor my father’s memory and bring together those who knew and worked with him,” he said.

From newsrooms to classrooms, Sam was known for his commanding presence, sharp news sense and dedication to developing future journalists. The memorial promises to be a touching reflection of a life lived in the service of truth, storytelling and community upliftment.
