Miss Tourism Zimbabwe 2010, Samantha Tshuma and gospel musician Skhululekile “Skhu” Mpofu are the latest additions to the Skyz Metro FM family.
The two who were hand-picked by the radio station’s management last week join socialites, Babongile Sikhonjwa, Mbo Mahocs and Gilmore “Tee” Moyo who have also secured slots at Bulawayo’s first commercial radio station. They will all be presenters who shall be allocated programmes to host.
Skhu said she was working on her programme which will be centred on issues that affect women and the society.
The Owami hit-maker who recently made a comeback to the music scene after a seven-year sabbatical said she would also be a DJ at Skyz Metro FM.
“I’m very excited as I’ve always wanted to be a presenter. Deejaying will be a whole new ball game for me but I’m up for the task. People should prepare to hear quality music.
“This is an opportunity that I’ve been waiting for and I’m quite happy,” Skhu said.
Meanwhile, the 50 shortlisted candidates from last week’s presenter auditions were revealed over the weekend. They have been invited for the final round of auditions at Amakhosi Cultural Centre today with the final 16 presenters, news anchors and DJs expected to be selected.
Presenter auditions for Skyz Metro FM sister company – Breeze FM will be held on May 26 and 27 at Kingston Building in Victoria Falls. Breeze FM will broadcast from the resort town for the community there.
Skyz Metro FM and Breeze FM chief executive officer, Qhubani Moyo said they would use the same criteria as the one they used for the Skyz Metro FM auditions last week.
“We’re looking for personalities with strong, audible voices to present our diverse programmes. People will be required to submit programme proposals among other tasks for the auditions,” Moyo said.
Breeze FM, which is expected to start broadcasting on September 1, a few days after Skyz Metro FM launches will broadcast in Tonga, English, Nambya and Ndebele, among other languages.
